Richard Burke Jones, a native and resident of Newburyport, has an interesting educational background: art, software engineering, and law. He holds a doctorate in law (J.D.), a masterÂs degree in software engineering, and a Master of Arts degree in art from Tufts/Museum School. His formal art training includes study with Robert Cormier, John Pike, and Daniel Green. Mr. Jones uses oil, watercolors, and pastels to paint local landscapes, interiors, and figures. The artist began his historic Newburyport series two and a half years ago. He diligently researched the city as it appeared at various times in the 19th Century. Due to the enormous about of detail, each painting takes 10-12 months to complete. As a member of the prestigious Guild of Boston Artists, Mr. Jones served on the Governing Board from 1994-1997. Mr. Jones is also known as a portrait artist and his subjects include several famous people, including former First Lady Barbara Bush. His work may be found in many private and corporate collections as well in the permanent collection of the Newport Art Museum in Newport, Rhode Island. |
