Biography

Mary Griffin, a board member of the New England Watercolor Society, has been creating exquisite watercolors for more than thirty years.Best known for her larger than life single blossoms,Mary has won several awards including national awards. Her work has been published in numerous books and displayed on the cover of three magazines.

Mary's paintings grace homes throughout the United States and the United Kingdom, adding their translucent beauty where ever they are placed. Her unique talent for capturing the play of light on and through the flower produces a work that delights the eye with its life like quality.

In her own words, "Life is beautiful and full of surprises. That is why I subconsciously chose the flower to portray life.

Each blossom is unique and beautiful in its' own right. The way light passes through each flower, creating shadows within, is most inspiring.

For this reason, I use only transparent watercolors, building up glazes slowly, which allows the viewer the feeling of translucence.

Using the white of the paper affords me the challenge of playing off of this white with darker hues.

With each curve of the petal, I am reminded that each blossom is one of a kind, and is the reflection of life itself.

By painting the flower larger than life, I hope to share my joy and wonder in God's creations."
