David came from an artistic family background in the UK with both mother and her own father successful exhibiting painters, each in their own right. Demonstrating artistic talent from an early age David had already secured a number of prestigious awards for his landscape painting by the age of 18. On leaving school he chose to pursue a career in architecture, training at Liverpool University School of Architecture.  David continued his drawing and painting in his spare time and was a very active member and exhibitor with the Stockport Artists Guild in Cheshire, winning their annual show award in 1998. In 1999 David was selected to head up Opus Architecture in New Zealand, one of NZ's leading architectural practices and for 11 years David led a period of unprecedented growth and success for the practice with many design awards won including the inaugural New Zealand Architecture Medal in 2008 for the design of the Wilson Special Needs School in Takapuna.  Despite his successful career in architecture David's passion remained with drawing and painting. David set about constructing a studio in the grounds of his house and has now taken early retirement to focus exclusively on his painting. David works in charcoal, conte pencil and watercolour but all very much as preparation for finished work in oils. David draws inspiration from the beauty of creation, be that landscape, coastal scenery and seascape or the human figure. In his work he seeks to explore the intricate relationships of colour and shape, light and shade. David has exhibited extensively in the UK and has works in private collections in the UK, France and New Zealand.
