Biography

Debra Lohrere is an award winning Australian artist. She was born in Warragul Victoria, Australia in 1962 and spent most of her life in suburbs south east of Melbourne. She now resides in south east Queensland where she has her studio/gallery at Redbank Plains. She has been painting for over 30 yearsand her paintings hang in collections around Australia. She is a member of the Royal Queensland Art Society.

As a teenager she studied at the Alexander Art Gallery under Marlene Leary and Aubrey Hinchcliffe.

Her works vary in subject matter and colour. Her object as an artist is to communicate part of the wonder, awe and pleasure she feels as she observes and responds to the beauty of what she sees. There are no formulas to her palette. Her artwork is a variety of realist and impressionist genres and themes include buildings, portraits, horses and animals set amid the beautiful Australian landscape. She also paints old farm houses and sunsets with spectacular colours. Her work is a sure investment as well as being something of great beauty. Something you can hang on your wall and enjoy for years to come.

Artwork that purports to represent what is seen; also called objective art.

An art movement founded in France in the last third of the 19th century. Impressionist artists sought to break up light into its component colors and render its ephemeral play on various objects. The artist's vision was intensely centered on light and the ways it transforms the visible world. This style of painting is characterized by short brush strokes of bright colors used to recreate visual impressions of the subject and to capture the light, climate and atmosphere of the subject at a specific moment in time. The chosen colors represent light which is broken down into its spectrum components and recombined by the eyes into another color when viewed at a distance (an optical mixture). The term was first used in 1874 by a journalist ridiculing a landscape by Monet called Impression - Sunrise.
