Biography
Sophie Rein (artist name: Sophia) was born in Paris in 1971. She grew up in Munich and the south of France. Since her early childhood, the work of her mother, artist and portrait painter herself, has always fascinated her. Her mother always encouraged Sophie in her passion for painting and she taught her oil painting (practiced with knife or spatula) very early. This technique became her favourite one.

She studied in political sciences and in corporate (business) law in Strasbourg (France) before working in human resources and communication in Frankfort (Germany). Her education and
her career played an important role in the development of her work as artist painter and gave her a certain independence. Being a traveller, Sophie Rein, lived in Munich, Paris, Strasbourg, Lyon, Nice,
Wiesbaden and now she lives in Luxemburg. These cities have influenced and have helped to feed her inspiration. The birth of her first daughter in 2004 played a decisive role in her reflection
process, especially on the meaning of life. A thinking that pushed her to choose the path of art in 2006.
In 2009, after numerous art exhibitions, she chose to join the International Collective of
Artists Art Zoom (CIAAZ) for an international opening.

"I understood that life passed quickly and that every day was made of a multitude of small delicious moments which I had too often ignored; I have therefore decided to consecrate myself to my passion, painting, and to live more consciously these moments that fulfil our daily
lives.
Without ignoring that reality is not always colourful, my art does not leave place for greyness, it is there to make us dream, to embellish the lives of others, as it embellishes mine. My paintings are the reflection of feelings, the reflection of warm moments and the reflection of
beautiful things that surround us.
That is why, I also paint with and for children; I revive memories of childhood, memories of a fantasy world where everything is possible, where dream and reality are one.
Working with children teaches you a lot of things about yourself; children are real and they do not have a priori; they see life in a simple way and they go to the main point (to the essential things); it is an important element for my artistic approach, not to lose touch with why I
paint and to remain faithful ".

My painting is an art of feelings in its essence, but also in its shape. I do not work my sketches a lot to keep a certain excitement when I get to work on my canvas. I like starting my work on a blank (white) canvas without really knowing where I am going. My hand is guided by feeling
and the choice of colours depends on my mood. Every time I feel an intense feeling of freedom. I use different techniques. I use oil painting, but also acrylic painting. I also use gouache, watercolour and sometimes I integrate charcoal into my work. I like touching everything and discovering the final result. I work with knives; I like this feeling of scratching the canvas or sculpting the material. I like sticking the newspapers (technique of collage); it brings an interesting additional dimension. I associate to the newspapers a pub ambiance, the
smell of coffee, the sound of spoons on saucers, discussions of students who are philosophizing.
I also like the result of writing on a painting, the art of colours is based on by the magic world of letters; a beautiful arrangement, that boosts the desired effect. Recently, I have used the spray (aerosol painting) into my work; but not onto all my canvas. Once again, it depends on my
mood. But it comes with my work when I want to go further, to break rules, to let off steam. I am always delighted by the result, as if it reflected a part of me that I did not know yet. Finally I enjoy working for others; this path can restrict the freedom of the inspiration by
the given criteria, but I like to meet new people very much, to be interested in what they like, where they live and I find this work of transfer to their emotional world humanely very interesting.
