Savvino-Storogevsky Monastery
Founded in 1339, Savvino-Storogevsky Monastery is one of the gems of Russian architecture of 15-17th centuries, the former summer residence the Romanov dynasty From the time of Czar Alexis (Alexey Mikhailovich) . It is situated on the wooded hill in the town of Zvenigorod, 60 km from Moscow.
In the territory of Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery you can visit the venerable Savva's (the follower of Sergii Radonedgskii)cell, the ancient Kremlin (the so-called "Small Town") with Uspensky Cathedral is decorated with the masterpieces of Andrei Rublev's frescos.
Since 1920 the monastery has located a museum with expositions of icons by 17th-century court craftsmen, early Russian books, a unique porcelain collection, a collection of huge Chinese vases, old-Russian household articles, Russian and foreign paintings and graphics, and specimens of furniture, fabrics and folk costume. |
