First Name James
Last Name Kubiatowicz
Biography

James Kubiatowicz's gestural paintings capture the small, but significant, moments in people's lives. His glimpses of everyday life are familiar scenes and yet they have a way of reaching us on an intimate and more personal level.

As a young man, Mr. Kubiatowicz trained with a professional artist for a year, and then attended the Minnesota School of Art and Design as well as the University of Minnesota, where he earned his degree. Leading up to his career as a professional painter, James had been a creative director in the corporate world and owned a design studio specializing in the illustration of product concepts.

Mr. Kubiatowicz gathers his visual details from the sketches he makes while out walking and from every day observation. He has admitted to being enamored with the physical properties of the painting process, i.e. the handling of brushes, the scent of oils, and the texture of linen. As an evolving artist, James is constantly challenging himself to experiment with limited palettes, as well as variations of tones and paint densities. The painters he most admires and that inspire him are: Moses Soyer, Maurice Utrillo, Charles Woodbury, Walter Farndon, and the artists of the Bloomsbury Group, whose work deeply influenced the aesthetics of the early twentieth century.

Mr. Kubiatowicz's artistic memberships include: the prestigious Salmagundi Club (NY), Providence Art Club (RI) , The Copley Society of Art in Boston (MA) and the Art League of Rhode Island where he is past President.
