Biography | |
Each stroke of his paintbrush provides a strong fidelity to the native environment. There is not a devotion to universal Beauty, but to poetry of a common leaf trembled by the wind, a rivers currents grass morning mist on water and drifting clouds in a blue sky. He does not simply analyze the environment in a detailed manner. Through a marginal and ordinary fact, the painter reveals the visual divinity of Russian landscape that always deeply touches a spectator.
Andrei Gerasimov is a painter who sees Russian fields and homely circumstances as an embodiment of the universal beauty and truth. The indigenous Russian mentality runs through his works and is expressed not exclusively through the subject-matter, but much more through a special Russian perception of the world.

Style Realism |
 |
A style of painting which depicts subject matter (form, color, space) as it appears in actuality or ordinary visual experience without distortion or stylization. In a general sense, refers to objective representation. More specifically, a nineteenth century movement, especially in France, that rejected idealized academic styles in favor of everyday subjects. Daumier, Millet, and Courbet were realists. |
