MINOAN / Surprising as it may seem, it is indeed a magnificent lion of the island of Crete, and this, in a recurrent iconography of Minoan gem engraving. Indeed, about 4000 years ago, the vision of beings and things were not only different, but had a symbolic sacred totally escapes us today. The fact that their writing (the Linear A) has not yet been deciphered it certainly helps, as regards the archaic protopalatiale period pre palace. |
