Description | |
Kalyazin (Êàëÿçèí in Russian) is a town in the Tver Oblast in Russia, located on the Volga River.
A flooded chapel stands in the Volga River next to Kalyazin.Kalyazin appeared in the 12th century as a settlement for people relieved from paying taxes (such settlements were called sloboda). The town's importance grew significantly with the foundation of the Makarievsky Monastery on the opposite bank of the Volga in the 15th century. |
